BLUEBIRD DEPARTMENT                                                          Bluebirds prefer the quiet of suburb fringes, country pastures, golf courses, cemeteries and parks. Bluebirds are insectivorous during their nesting cycle, dining almost exclusively on ground-dwelling insects. Bluebirds will readily accept human handouts of mealworms and bird grubs, often becoming so tame that they can be hand-fed. In addition to residing where there are plenty of insects, bluebirds also like to be provided with a perching spot-a sentinel from which they can survey their kingdom.             NEW .... About Dried Mealworms:

Read what our customers have to say ...

I ordered the meal worms from this company to feed our purple martins. I wasn't sure what I was going to receive, but after receiving my order 3 days after placing my order I was pleasantly surprised. most companies send meal worms in a cup like container. this company sent them in a net bag. after emptying the bedding/feed (which I ordered with the meal worms) into an enclosed container, I emptied the bag of meal worms into the container. I cant say that I saw any dead worms. If you want fresh meal worms at a reasonable price and shipping this is the company to go with. *****

Judy P.

I was amazed that any company sold freeze dried mealworms for bluebirds. It is so much easier to keep them and feed them when freeze dried, rather than fresh. I was uncertain the bluebirds would eat them, but they seem to enjoy them as much as the fresh ones. The birds come right to the tree when they see me come with their dinner, and after I walk a few feet away, they land and eat.  I definitely will be purchasing more freeze dried mealworms since my bluebirds are hatching their second brood.

Judy S.

Thank you for the excellent mealworms that I received from you.  The bluebirds raised three broods and now they have moved on.  I'll look forward to feeding them next year.

 Jean B.

Ive ordered 4 times over the spring and summer, and they have been an excellent provider for my bluebirds. Will use them only for ordered bird feed.

Marcia T.

Once again , my order arrived promptly and healthy . the meal worm keeper is very handy. my chipmunk and wild birds love the meal worms. the canned grasshoppers were not a hit with the chipmunk. they may have been to large and different for her. they were top quality though. i will continue to use exotic nutrition company for my meal worms. thank you for the excellent service.

Debra H.

I've tried several suppliers for mealworms for my quail. Exotic nutrition is the best so far in terms of quality, value and service. I will definitely be ordering from them again.

John B.

I have always had excellent service & products from Exotic Nutrition Company & recommend them to friends who also own exotic pets.

Patricia B.

I have bought from Exotic pet for about three years now and have to say i have never had a bad experience. The quality of their products far exceeds any expectations you could have. Also the quality and condition of live insects purchased from them will guarantee that you buy only from them .

Robbin L.

I ordered a bluebird worm feeder, a supply of live mealie worms, and a container for the worms. My order was immediately acknowledged by email and was shipped so quickly so that it arrived only a few days after I ordered it. It was packed efficiently and the items were as advertised. I recommend this seller very highly.

Susan C.

I had previously been buying my bluebird food locally but during the summer the quality really deteriorated due to the heat during shipping. From my very first order from Exotic Nutrition I have been extremely pleased. The mealworms (the ENTIRE order) are alive and large. I especially like the fact they are shipped in cool-storage. Id recommend Exotic Nutrition Co. to anyone for mealworm purchases.

Pamela B.

This was the first time I have ordered from Exotic Nutrition and I have been well pleased. I have already referred them to some bird loving friends.

Barbara P.

You are a great company! I order mealworms often and within days I have my order. I will order from your company as long as I have my animals to care for. I have never been disappointed, you are the best.

Thank you,  Kim

About Feeding Wild Birds ...

Lots of birders love to feed their birds mealworms, but live mealworms can be a challenge to find locally and an even greater challenge to successfully ship live; especially during the summer months.

We've found a great solution for you:  dried mealworms.  They still contain all the great protein your birds need, they ship well and you don't have to worry about keeping them alive.  And, perhaps the greatest part:  they're nearly half the cost of live mealworms!

If you've not offered mealworms to your birds before, this is a great way to start.  "Mealies" are a favorite of nearly all backyard birds - trust us, set a budget limit now - your birds will devour them more quickly than you can keep them in the feeder.  Chickadees and nuthatches usually find them first, woodpeckers, flickers, cardinals, bluebirds and orioles will quickly follow suit.

Offer the mealworms sprinkled on top your favorite seed in a platform or fly-through feeder, or any window feeder.

What is a "mealworm" you ask?
Mealworms are insects, not really worms. What appears to be a worm is the larval form of the darkling beetle. They make excellent feeders for small mammals, reptiles, and birds.

More about Bluebirds:

While the ideal habitat for bluebirds is an open area dominated by short grass and dotted with a few scattered trees, they will also take up residence in wooded areas. Unfortunately, these brushy habitats are the haunt of the House Wren, a boisterous little songster with the nasty habit of pecking the eggs and usurping the nests of other birds. Bluebirds may also choose to nest in farmyards, feed lots and other areas where humans and cattle are found together. Unfortunately, these areas are the almost exclusive domains of the belligerent and prolific House Sparrow. This aggressive exotic, which was introduced into North America from Europe in the mid-1800s, out-competes the gentler bluebird for nesting sites and often takes over the bluebirds’ homes by killing them.

In the northern parts of their ranges, bluebirds migrate south for the winter. In the southern regions, they are resident throughout the year. When the weather turns cold, bluebirds readily switch to a diet of berries.

Read what our customers have to say ...

I bought my first order of mealworms for my bluebirds a couple of months ago and have ordered from them three more times. I placed the order and within two to three days they arrived in the mail. The price was very good. A bait store in our town wanted $2.60 for 35 worms and I could get much more for a reasonable price. The worms arrived alive. The bluebirds now look forward to each day when I feed them.    Robert C.

This is the third bluebird season that Ive been purchasing mealworms from this merchant. They were the first to offer the larvae again in the midst of a nationwide mealworm shortage. The Mountain bluebird I rescued and raised two years ago, his mate, and brood of five are grateful.     Debbie L.

I was extremely impressed by my very first order of mealworms. Due to a massive power outtage, the mealworms were delayed because the Postal Service could not deliver them. I figured they would all be dead as they were shipped on a Wed. and were not able to be delivered to me by the Post Office (no fault of the mealworm company) until MONDAY !!!! They were in transient 6 days - I figured most would be dead............ NOT SO !!! I was shocked that only maybe 5 were dead. Ive been ordering from them ever since. And the gentleman that answers the phone at customer service is just the nicest man. Thanks again.    Linda H.

Keeping Your Mealworms Alive:                                 One of the best ways to offer a healthy food to wild birds,  is to offer  natural, live, canned or freeze dried insects. Mealworms are a fantastic way of providing both nutritional and dietetic diversity.
The "common mealworm" (Tenebrio molitor) is probably the most widely raised feeder insect available. We keep them well fed with vitamin packed Exotic Nutrition's mealworm bedding/feed, so they deliver the highest nutritional value. Mealworms are extremely easy to keep. Just store them in your refrigerator at 45-50 degrees F. where they go into a dormant state and last for months. We suggest that you remove the mealworms from the refrigerator once per week, feed them Mealworm Bedding / Keeper along with raw potatoes. Allow the mealworms to feed for 24 hours, then place them back into the refrigerator for long term storage.
