Cage Heaters: For safety, ceramic heat emitters should be mounted at least 12 inches away to prevent warping or melting. For higher wattage emitters (100W or more), a distance of 18 inches is recommended. Always use a ceramic socket with a metal dome rated for the bulb's wattage, and pair it with a thermostat to regulate temperature. Ensure adequate ventilation and consider using a heat guard to prevent direct contact with the cage or your pet.

Bar spacing: None — the Sahara is a solid-panel enclosure. The walls are rigid waterproof PVC; the front and top are clear acrylic panels. There are no wire bars to squeeze through or get stuck in. This makes it one of the safest choices for escape-prone or small-pawed species that can slip through typical bar-style cages.
Small vs. Large — which size fits your pet?

Small (32" W × 16" D × 18" H): Suitable for single hamsters, gerbil pairs, small lizards, and juvenile hedgehogs. Fits comfortably in most apartments or on a standard table.

Large (40" W × 20" D × 21" H): Better for adult hedgehogs, rats, degus, or any species that benefits from room to roam. Recommended if you plan to add an exercise wheel, hides, and enrichment items simultaneously.
Recommended species and body size: Best suited for small-to-medium bodied animals roughly 3–16 oz in adult weight — including hamsters, gerbils, degus, rats, hedgehogs, small lizards, and Old World chameleons. Door access: The full-length front acrylic panel detaches completely for easy access, deep cleaning, and accessory placement. The hinged top window allows quick daily access without fully opening the front.
