Purchased for a pair of southern flying squirrels. This is a great cage for the price, it’s affordable, spacious, and the horizontal 1/2” spaced bars make it an excellent choice for soft-use small-medium animals who like to climb. I would deem this appropriate for sugar gliders, rats, flying squirrels, and other similarly active and tame climby pets. Some reptiles too.
Things to note:
The access doors are large, so if your intended resident isn’t tame, you’re going to have a freedom problem. A smaller or even half door would be nice, but this is an extremely affordable cage so it’s not going to have every amenity.
There are two little side doors that sort of snap lock into place. Be wary of curious critter fingers when using them. These would be helpful however for a sitter to access a food or water dish in your absence without having to use the giant front doors.
Pros:
Looks nice.
Sturdy and reasonably well made.
Seems pretty secure, no flimsy access points and the locks and extra tray latches seem sturdy.
Appreciate the split bottom tray, much easier to deal with than having one giant metal tray.
I can’t detect any dangerous pinch or escape spots, no protruding screws, anything like that. Seems safe for its inhabitants.
Powder coating and welding seems good, time will tell!
Wheels are nice and sturdy, smooth.
Love the ability to expand it, and we plan to do so!
Cons:
Putting together the first few panels is really tricky and involves a bit of swearing, it will test your marriage and sanity. Once you get the back and front panels attached to the middle frame, piece of cake. Took us less than an hour from unboxing to completion.
Honestly, this is a really solid cage at this price point. Anyone griping has obviously never invested thousands in a parrot cage. If I was looking for a parrot enclosure, I’d spend the extra on a high end parrot cage knowing the wear and tear they must endure and the extra features it would have. For what I consider a soft use resident (small to medium mammals or reptiles), this is great.
If you’re on the fence, go for it. You won’t regret the size, your critters will truly appreciate the space. I’ve owned a lot of enclosures, and am very happy with this purchase.
Will probably buy more of these in the future, as this is a nice enclosure for rehabbing wildlife.
Thanks, Exotic Nutrition!
