IMPORTANCE OF CALCIUM: Research has shown that natural feed with balanced Ca:P ratios increases animal health and contributes to stronger bones and shiny feathers. Calcium is especially important for laying birds because a lack of it can result in poor laying, soft shells, and can cause behavior problems such as egg eating as the bird tries to recoup the much needed calcium.

    Dried Black Soldier Fly Larvae

I have been feeding our wild birds for years successfully using dried mealworms. After attending a talk on bluebirds and the need for more calcium for their eggs, I decided to try using black soldier fly larvae. Despite some comments about the birds not eating them, I have not had that problem and the birds are emptying the feeder as fast as they had been with just mealworms. I have found the quality and price very good.
