Why does fat matter for growing mammals?
Growth, movement, and maintaining body temperature all require energy. Fat provides a concentrated source of dietary energy, helping fuel these demands while protein supplies building blocks for developing tissues.
For some older, pre-weaned mammals—particularly squirrels—a higher-fat formula can be appropriate as part of their feeding program. Higher fat is not automatically better for every animal: formula selection should reflect the species, developmental stage, body condition, and guidance of a veterinarian or licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

Feeding Guidelines
Feed according to the animal’s species, age, weight, and developmental stage. Boost Formula is intended for animals 5 weeks or older; it is not a newborn feeding formula.
Pair with Exotic Nutrition Wonder Nipples and O-Ring Syringes, available together in our Wonder Nipple Feeding Kit. The soft silicone nipple and appropriately sized syringe support careful, controlled handfeeding.
Always let the animal suckle at its own pace. Never force or rapidly squirt formula into the mouth, as this can cause aspiration.
Different animals have specific feeding guidelines and schedules. See our feeding instructions for common exotic animals here.
Storage Instructions
Store powdered formula in a cool, dry place. Reseal tightly after each use. Refrigerate after opening for maximum freshness. Prepared formula must be refrigerated and used within 24 hours.
