Just picked up our little guy a little over a week ago. So far he has been loving the ZooPro food. Been picky (pun intended) about the Hedgie Bugs & Veggies. He's just not a fan of the veggies. Devours the bugs though. We have the platform as low as it can go in his cage and he's been great about using the ramp going up and down. We mounted a small camera in the top of his cage and we've checked it daily and he's yet to fall off of it. Overall a great starter setup for sure.
You wrote an article stating that ramps and levels should be completely enclosed for hedgehogs to prevent a fall and then sell one that doesn't have that. It's also smaller than your recommended 5 sq ft of floor space. Interesting if you ask me. Why don't you make an enclosure that meets your own recommendations?
April, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for any confusion regarding the enclosure's ramps and levels. We understand the importance of enclosed ramps for hedgehogs, but for cages like the Zanzibar, which only have about 6 inches of space between the bedding and the platform, it is considered safe. Regarding the floor space, the total floor space for the Hedgehog Home (Zanzibar cage) is 3.92 sq ft, which is considered a starter cage for a hedgehog. However, for an adult hedgehog, we recommend upgrading to provide the recommended 5 sq ft of floor space. We will update our blog to make this recommendation clearer. I loved the cage. It was super big, fit my hedgehog perfectly, although I did a little research and found out that hedgehogs are naturally clumsy, so unfortunately I was unable to add the second story because I was afraid she was going to fall off. 😢
I wish the wheel came with a stand. Other than that it was a great kit!
