Where Can I Get A Hedgehog?

Hedgehog In Box

While we don't carry hedgehogs ourselves, there are multiple options available for obtaining a pet hedgehog.

Local Pet Stores. You usually can't find hedgehogs in the large chain stores like PetSmart, but many of the smaller independently owned pet stores have them. Check your local listings in your area and call the stores for availability.

Local Breeders. Another option would be to search online or in the classified ads section of your local newspaper for hedgehog breeders in your area; make sure to find one that is licensed by the USDA. Many breeders sell via Facebook or Craigslist as well.

Surrenders or Adoption. In continuation of searching online, this is also a great way to connect with other hedgehog owners and find someone who may want to surrender their hedgehog to you for adoption. It could also be worth contacting your local animal shelters or wildlife rescues for a hedgehog.

Local Veterinarian. Another good source, and one with a beneficial side effect, is to contact veterinarians in your area to see which treat hedgehogs, and whether they can point you to any breeders in your area. You're going to need to know a hedgehog-friendly veterinarian, anyway, and this will ensure you find a breeder who takes good care of their hedgehogs.

Direct Shipping. If there are no stores or breeders in your area, many licensed breeders can arrange transportation for out-of-state buyers to have one shipped directly to you- we've listed some references below to help start your search!

NJ Exotic Pets (pet store). Lodi, NJ. (973)396-8897

Janda Exotics (licensed breeder). Kingsbury, TX. (210)241-1856

KyTy Critters (licensed breeder). Kansas City, KS. (816)344-8557
